As you can probably tell by my posts lately, I am all about Strawberry Season. I’ve done as much as I can so far to take advantage of strawberries:
The need for a Strawberry Salsa
With BBQ season and dinner invites in full swing, I went on a search to find a great take-along snack for just such an occasion. What better way to use strawberries than in a rendition of my favorite food group: SALSA!
I am no stranger to making salsa. My mango salsa is always requested for potlucks because it is so fresh and different. This Strawberry salsa is similar in some ways and so much better in others!
This recipe is a ‘standard’ salsa recipe which just replaces tomatoes with strawberries. There are only 6 ingredients: strawberries, red onion, jalapeno, fresh cilantro, pinch of salt or pepper and lime juice. I found a recipe with exact amounts (I’m really more of a fly by the seat of my stomach kind of cooker). And the recipe came from non-other than my favorite cooking lady Ali from Gimme Some Oven. Check out her post about this recipe here.
If you’re feeling adventurous, you could definitely adapt this recipe to be more of a desert salsa by removing a few ingredients. Cut up a few tortillas into triangles and drizzle with melted butter and cinnamon sugar. Broil them on high for a few minutes and you’d have yourself a good set of desert nachos! Try it out a few ways and let me know how you like it!
