Easy Paw Wax for Winter

Winter is here. Sigh.

Unfortunately, as I enter into a hibernation-like state through winter, I currently have two roommates that know no such feeling.

To them winter is just another season only with fun fluffy stuff to play in! The hardest part about winter as a dog owner is theĀ worrying. Are they cold? Are they hot? Are they thirsty? Are they hungry? The things with dogs is that they rarely tell you something is wrong until its too late. When you have two dogs, they wait even longer to tell you they’re in pain (its true- check it out)!

So winter walks are great for them but a big ol’ worry fest for me.

Living in the city means that the walks we go on near home are often on city-salted streets and Lord knows what the municipality uses for salting these days. Salt can severely damage the paws of your furry friends which is why veterinarians recommend that pet parents use a protective coating on dogs paws before walks. Some people opt for using little booties but my babies are far too grown up to be wearing booties.

Paw Wax it is!

Paw wax is one of the biggest sellers for pet retailers this time of year and for good reason! They really work! The best paw waxes are popular because of how few ingredients they contain therefor, super easy to make at home!

What you’ll need is one part beeswax, two parts olive oil and one part shea butter. All you do is melt down the ingredients, then pour the mixture into the container you wish to keep it in and wait for it to harden.

The great thing about these ingredients is that you can use it as a nose wax as well!

Another great thing about this is that you can use adorable little jars to store them in! And what a good gift idea for your puppy-loving friends!
